ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

PROCESS AND TIMELINE

The Grossmont-Cuyamaca College Promise will pay tuition and mandatory for students who meet the eligibility requirements for the first semester at Grossmont and/or Cuyamaca College and will continue to pay for up to four (4) consecutive semester with continued eligibility.Tuition cost is $46 a unit and mandatory fees include student health, representation, and Cuyamaca construction fee.The following are NOT PAID by the Promise:

  • Books, supplies, parking permits, and other class fees
  • Summer tuition and mandatory fees

Summer sessions students:

  • Can still be eligible for the Promise beginning in the Fall
  • Grades will count toward the minimum 2.0 GPA requirement for the second year

Promise students who qualify for the CA College Promise Grant (financial aid) will receive an additional one-time $250 Educational Expense Grant their first semester.

  • First Year
  • First-time college students who are California residents.
  • Second Year
  • Promise students who maintained Promise eligibility requirements during their first year and are going into/currently in their Second Year.
  • 2ND Year Only
  • Students who met Promise eligibility during their first year but did not receive the Promise the first year. They are going into/currently in their Second Year.

FIRST YEAR

Students must complete eligibility requirements by the deadline of the first semester at Grossmont and/or Cuyamaca College. Up to four (4) consecutive semesters (3 semesters if beginning in Spring) will be paid by the Promise, based on maintaining continued eligibility requirements.

  • NOTIFICATION OF ELIGIBILITY
  • Students will receive an email with the determination of acceptance or denial one week after the deadline.
  • PAYMENT OF TUITION & MANDATORY FEES

Two (2) payment options:

  • Option 1: Do NOT pay at the time of registration.

Tuition and mandatory fees will be paid for by the Promise once eligibility is verified.

  • Students will not be dropped from classes for nonpayment.
  • Option 2: Pay at the time of registration.

Tuition and mandatory fees will be automatically reimbursed by the Promise once eligibility is verified.

  • Note: Students who receive notification that they are not eligible for the Promise will be responsible to pay account balance.
  • $250 EDUCATIONAL EXPENSE GRANT

CAN STUDENTS BEGIN THE SPRING SEMESTER AND RECEIVE THE PROMISE?

Yes. Eligible students must complete the four (4) requirements above by the February 14th deadline.

  • If awarded the Promise, students need to complete 12 units and at least a 2.0 GPA to qualify for the following Fall and Spring semesters.

SECOND YEAR

Students must complete Second Year eligibility requirements to receive the Promise in the Fall and maintain continued eligibility requirements for the Spring semester.

Students must complete 2nd Year Only requirements to receive the Promise in the Fall and maintain continued eligibility requirements for the Spring semester. The four (4) eligibility requirements below need to be completed by the August 31st deadline to qualify for the Promise to pay tuition and mandatory fees.

  • ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS FROM the FIRST YEAR
    • First-time college student
    • California Resident or (AB540 eligible)
    • Completed 12 units each semester
    • Maintained cumulative 2.0 GPA
  • REQUIREMENTS TO COMPLETE
  • Complete: New Student Orientation
  • Create: Education Plan
